Uppercase characters are capital letters: A, B, C, …

In ASCII, they are the characters in the range [A-Z]. But other characters (for instance accented characters like É, È, Ê, À, Î, Ä, Ù) are also considered uppercase.

The counterpart of uppercase is lowercase.
